MY CITY

MY CITY

I live in this beautiful city and for the past while have been drawing and painting my neighborhood streets, corner stores and people.

Waiting on Russian Hill

This abandoned corner store on Larkin and Union fascinates me. This was taken from numerous sketches and photos of it.

My family live on the top of Russian Hill so it;s quite a slog up the steep hills. This painting was borne out of that experience.

Walking the Dogs

Same abandonned corner store on Larkin and Union. I am amazed at how many dogs you see in this city. No worries cause I love dogs!

You see so many interesting folks and wonder about their lives. This lady was standing outside on Polk Street. She had taken such care to curate her outfit. It reminded me of a japanese actor. Or perhaps a Nun. I complimented her on the care she had taken and asked if I might photograph her and she said yes.

My Lady of Polk Street

This guy was sheltering from the rain in the church doorway close to my home. I saw a young community store asking him to move on. He didn’t and I stayed around and chatted with him. He’d come into the city from New York. I asked if I could photograph him and he said yes. I also created a drawing of the encounter he had with the cop.

Dystopian Summer

Mid covid we awoke to red skies from embers carried by the wind from the wild fires destroying homes and land across the Bay. This was the view outside.
